COBRA VERDE
"Copycat Killers" (Scat Records)
The Plain Dealer
Veteran Cleveland band Cobra Verde - now a quintet thanks to the addition of
guitarist Tim Parnin - is expert at crafting rock 'n' roll that oozes glam-punk
danger and bluesy, lustful abandon. On its fourth studio album, the covers
project "Copycat Killers," the band grafts this grit onto pop classics and cult
faves. In fact, if the slinky lounge-act sleaze of Pink's "Get the Party
Started" doesn't pack the dance floor at Saturday's CD release party, then a
Chemical Brothers-goes-Krautrock rendition of Donna Summer's "I Feel Love" or
the herky-jerky minimalist version of New Order's "Temptation" certainly will. -
