Cobra Verde; Plate O Shrimp; the Crooked Beat

So what if Lollapalooza canceled its Minneapolis stop? Leave Perry Farrell to hang with his kings of queens of the stoned age--we've got our own second stage at the Triple Rock tonight. (Okay, so it's a really tiny second stage, but use your imagination!) At 5:00 p.m., Matt Sharp of Weezer and the Rentals fame celebrates the release of his debut solo EP, Puckett's Versus the Country Boy (In Music We Trust) with a performance that's rumored to include a slide projector, a Christmas light show, and a roomful of hipsters sitting quietly on pillows. At 9:00 p.m., Cleveland new-rockers Cobra Verde up the noise level with alt-rock icon J. Mascis--who, even if he were playing on his own, is reason enough to catch this show tonight. While Plate O Shrimp and the Crooked Beat open for the later show, we'll be debating the important issues: Who would teach us more about being a rock star, Dinosaur Jr. veteran Mascis, or Verde guitarist and Cleveland State professor of rock 'n' roll Frank Vazzano? 21+. $8. 9:00 p.m. --SAT JUN 21
