Cobra Verde
Nightlife
Nightlife is a veritable velvet goldmine of '90s
rock'n'roll. Avant glam is what the publicists are
calling it and that is a perfect term to describe Cobra Verde
. Modern production takes this oh-so-Bowie sound and
puts it on a stage in New York in 1999 -
and this is no dis. Beautiful warbling backgrounds
and perfectly rampaging guitar lines set the stage
for John Petkovic's tall tales of love,
hate, casinos and other fancy stuff.
"Every God for Himself" rings of Pavement on
a good day and "Heaven in the Gutter" conjures
images of dry ice, hot clubs - that's alright ain't it?
- Anna Ripley
