Pop and jazz guide:Cobra Verde
COBRA VERDE, Mercury Lounge, 217 East Houston Street, at Ludlow Street, Lower East Side, (212) 260-4700; Southpaw, 125 Fifth Avenue, at Sterling Place, Park Slope, Brooklyn, (718) 230-0236. The dangerous, ironic aura of glam-rock fascinates Cobra Verde, a band from Cleveland that folds new paradoxes into the anthems and angles of the 1970's style. Its new album, "Easy Listening" (MuscleTone), slightly smoothes out its music but not its barbed wit, and in these shows the band will have the additional lead guitar of J Mascis from Dinosaur Jr. At the Mercury Lounge tonight at 8:30, the bill also includes Tiger Mountain, Need New Body and All City Affairs; admission is $10. At Southpaw tomorrow night at 8:30, the openers are Girl Harbor, Hollow Rocket and Phaser; admission is $8
