Show pick:Cobra Verde

Garage rock is all the rage yet again, but few bands have a more primordial pedigree than Cleveland’s Cobra Verde. The band has been making back-to-basics rock since 1992, and it’s signed to Muscletone Records, the label run by Wayne Kramer, once of agit–garage rockers MC5. Cobra Verde will play Southpaw on May 24; the night before, at the Mercury Lounge, the band’s already sizable squall will be augmented by ex–Dinosaur Jr. front man J Mascis, a guitarist so versatile he’s done everything from create a great soundtrack to Gas Food Lodging to covering Funkadelic’s ax epic “Maggot Brain.”
